Yesteryear Collection

Although a “town watch” had been in existence since earliest times, the Northampton Borough Police was organised on the present day system in January 1836, under the first chief constable, “Old Joe” Ball. Throughout its 130 year history, the Northampton Borough Police had only five chief constables, which reflects the “Family Spirit” cultivated within the force, a quality showed by the majority of the old borough forces.
The Northampton Borough Police ceased to exist as a separate unit when in April 1966 it was amalgamated with the Northamptonshire county constabulary to form the Northampton and county constabulary (Renamed the Northamptonshire Police in 1974) under John Gott, the chief constable.
This model has been commissioned to commemorate the fact that the freedom of the borough of Northampton was conferred upon the force during its 150th anniversary on April 25th 1990.
The proceeds from the sale of each model will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
